Arrival in Tuscany

  1. Florence Airport and Pisa’s low-cost airport are the fastest and easiest way to reach Tuscany by air.
  2. There is a regular bus service to Florence Airport and the city center (train station).
  3. From Pisa Airport, it takes only a few minutes to get to the city center (tram / light train).
  4. Direct buses also connect Pisa Airport with Florence (1h15m), available with Autostradale bus or Sky bus.
  5. Tuscany is very well connected to the rest of Italy by train.
  6. In particular, Florence is connected to Rome (1h30m), Milan (2h), and Venice (over 2 hours) by fast train.
  7. Plus, you can easily get on the train from Luca and Pisa to Sync Terra (1h30m).

Getting Around Tuscany

In short, there are 3 possibilities to walk around you.

  1. Renting a car is the most flexible option, especially for traveling to the countryside at your own pace.
  2. The roads and lanes in the historic center can be quite narrow, so driving there can be challenging.
  3. Driving in rural areas is much easier and more straightforward
  4. Tuscanytours.net is an online price comparison website that I usually use to shop for my vehicle. It offers the most competitive price (read the cheapest)
  5. You can take the public bus or train that connects most of the destinations in Tuscany.
  6. If you do not feel comfortable driving around Tuscany then this is your best option.
  7. It must be said, public transport works great among major destinations, but it is lacking in rural areas where you have to rent a car or join an organized tour.

3 Days In Tuscany

If you only have 3 days, I would recommend staying in one place and visiting from there. In terms of accommodation, both Florence and Pisa are a good choice, especially if you do not want to rent a car, as most cities in the region have good train and bus connections. In addition, they offer a wide selection of organized tours both in the countryside and in other attractions such as Siena, San Gimignano, Chianti area, etc. You can read my post about Tuscany for about three days, with 5 detailed daily options based on the type of trip you want to make.

5 Days In Tuscany

If you stay in Tuscany for 4 or 5 days, you will learn more about this area.

For example, you might want to share your travels between Florence and Siena, where you can see historical sites, enjoy art places, and explore the countryside. In my 5 days in the Tuscany Guide, I have listed five trips with a daily plan based on whether you are looking for a relaxing trip or a more active vacation, traveling only in the countryside or in historic cities, with kids or just traveling with you. Partner. I have also highlighted one day in each plan if you have only 4 days in Tuscany you can potentially avoid.

7 Days In Tuscany

In 1 week in Tuscany, you can explore a good part of this region.

You can also think of dividing your trip into 3 main locations and from there you can also go to the countryside. You can also rent a car and stay in the Chianti area or Val d’Orcia for a unique experience. In my 7-day guide to Tuscany, I organized a plan for 5 types of vacation (in the countryside, including public transport only, by car, to experience many or more cold-out vacations). What you really need to know with a daily plan.

10 Days In Tuscany

With 10 days in Tuscany, you can plan a trip to see most of the countryside and historic cities. You will probably miss the coast, the island and the beach, however, it will take you at least 2 weeks or more. I organized a 10-day guide in Tuscany where I published 5 plans, including daily activities, to rent a car based on your choice or to use public transport only, to go on a relaxing holiday or to enjoy more.

Where to stay in Tuscany – the best area

Those looking for a holiday in Tuscany will find areas, cities, and countryside for any type of itinerary. Are you after the best countryside? Chianti area and Val d’Orcia are what you are looking for.

Do you want to be romantic with your partner somewhere? Arezzo and Siena are both great cities. Montalcino and Montepulciano are two beautiful and charming villages. If you travel with kids, Luca (toddlers) and Florence (growing up) are suitable destinations, however, if you are after some spectacular free thermal spa, you should stay in Siena or directly in Val d’Orcia.

This list will continue. This is a luxury/budget trip or hiking adventure or one that can include lots of relaxing time. In my article on where to stay in Tuscany, I provide more details about the best (and worst) areas based on your holiday type, as well as the proposed hotel / Airbnb, local restaurants, and activities you can do once there.
